“All 3 of them play a pivotal role in my birth.”

Engaging doulas is a checklist of mine right from the very start as years ago where I am exposed to water birth and subsequently home birth, I knew the need for one. Before engaging the Wonder Birth team (Gem & Alexia), I have interviewed another pair of doulas which didn't give me much assurance and confidence for home birth. Calling up Dr Lai Clinic and gotten a list of doulas who worked with him often for home birth, I got into a discovery call with Gem & Alexia. The entire call was really personal and I can see that they are really client centric with the questions they asked for us to dig deeper. What really sealed the deal for me is seeing their excitement when I said that I want to plan for a home birth.

Having a birth team that works well together is my dream and I'm thankful that it started from confirming Wonder Birth team. I love that they either covered most prenatal needs or have great contacts of other needs that they don't serve. Prenatal course by the team was great as it gave me and my birth partner a solid background in the physiology of birth, the daily exercise to practice to balance my pelvic and also taught spinning babies materials! Birth needs to be trained and planned for so with Dewi and her Prenatal yoga classes, it helped me to prep my body ready for birth. (Love the 3 birds for birth!) I'm honoured and privileged to have the entire team attending my birth. It was definitely not the gentle and calm birth that I idealised but it was indeed powerful and transformative. All 3 of them play a pivotal role in my birth. From assurance over the phone, to supporting both of us, to knowing baby's position to make labouring easier. What stood out the most is Gem remembered that I dislike having people behind my back and she respectfully kept this boundary while reminding the team (including Keidi the photographer) of it. It is in the little things like this that shows one commitment to the birther. Their postpartum support was also essential to our journey as new parents. They came as a much needed cheerleaders when we were at our lowest when baby needed to be hospitalised for phototherapy and (almost) exchange transfusion. All highs like poops were supported, all lows were met with such gentle empathy from all. Both me and hubby love our birth & Wonder Birth team make my dream from years ago possible. It gives me much inspiration and also passion to want to help fellow mamas through their journey in any way possible. ❤️❤️
